CCID:
Chemical Classification and Information Database.

The CCID is a database of chemicals we have classified in accordance with the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms (HSNO) regulations.
The information on the classification of chemicals will help with classifying formulated products. It may also be useful for preparing labels and safety data sheets.

The CCID is used by industry to classify formulated products. It can also be used to formulate less hazardous products by providing the classification information on potential alternative components.

The information may also be useful for the preparation of labels and safety data sheets.

The CCID provides chemical identification information, hazard classifications and classification data.

More information can be found on the New Zealand's EPA web site: http://www.epa.govt.nz/.

CCRIS:
Chemical Carcinogenesis Research Information System (U.S.).

CCRIS is a toxicology data file of the National Library of Medicine's (NLM) Toxicology Data Network (TOXNET®).
It is a scientifically evaluated and fully referenced data bank, developed and maintained by the National Cancer Institute (NCI). It contains over 9,200 chemical records with carcinogenicity, mutagenicity, tumor promotion, and tumor inhibition test results.
Data are derived from studies cited in primary journals, current awareness tools, NCI reports, and other special sources. Test results have been reviewed by experts in carcinogenesis and mutagenesis.

Chemical Family:
It describes the general nature of the chemical. Chemicals belonging to the same family often share certain physical and chemical properties and toxic effects. However, there may also be important differences. For example, toluene and benzene both belong to the aromatic hydrocarbon family. However, benzene is a carcinogen, and toluene is not.

Chronic:
Chronic means long-term or prolonged. It can describe either an exposure or a health effect. A chronic exposure is a long-term exposure. Long-term means lasting for months or years. A chronic health effect is an adverse health effect resulting from long-term exposure or a persistent adverse health effect resulting from a short-term exposure.

Combustible:
Combustible means able to burn. Broadly speaking, a material is combustible if it can catch fire and burn. However, in many jurisdictions, the term combustible is given a specific regulatory meaning.

Complex:
Reaction products or Biological material.

CPDB:
Carcinogenic Potency Database.

The Carcinogenic Potency Database (CPDB) is a unique and widely used international resource of the results of 6540 chronic, long-term animal cancer tests on 1547 chemicals. The CPDB provides easy access to the bioassay literature, with qualitative and quantitative analyses of both positive and negative experiments that have been published over the past 50 years in the general literature through 2001 and by the National Cancer Institute/National Toxicology Program through 2004. The CPDB standardizes the diverse literature of cancer bioassays that vary widely in protocol, histopathological examination and nomenclature, and in the published author’s choices of what information to provide in their papers. Results are reported in the CPDB for tests in rats, mice, hamsters, dogs, and nonhuman primates.

For each experiment, information is included that is important in the interpretation of bioassays: species, strain, and sex of test animal; features of experimental protocol such as route of administration, duration of dosing, average daily dose-rate in mg/kg body weight/day, and duration of experiment; target organ, tumor type, and tumor incidence; carcinogenic potency (TD50) and its statistical significance; shape of the dose-response, author’s opinion as to carcinogenicity, and literature citation. The TD50, our numerical description of carcinogenic potency, is the daily dose-rate in mg/kg/body weight/day for life to induce tumors in half of test animals that would have remained tumor-free at zero dose. TD50 provides a standardized quantitative measure that can be used for comparisons and analyses of many issues in carcinogenesis. The range of TD50 values across chemicals that are rodent carcinogens is more than 100 million-fold.

More information can be found on the CPDB web site: http://potency.berkeley.edu/.

CPR:
Controlled Products Regulations (Canada).

The Controlled Products Regulations are Canadian federal regulations developed under the Hazardous Products Act. They are part of the national Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS).

The regulations apply to all suppliers (importers or sellers) in Canada of controlled products intended for use in Canadian workplaces.

The regulations specify the criteria for identification of controlled products. They also specify what information must be included on labels and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs).
